What
is being done?
Ghana are planning the integration of LLINs
into the measles-polio-VAC campaign in Nov/06.
At this point there are about 2,000,000 LLINs
that will be available through UNICEF-Ghana,
primarily with DFID funding, and these would be
provided to all children under 2 years of age.
There is a possibility of more money being
available to increase the number of nets.
One of the major issues in Ghana is the
integration of the private sector into the net
distribution during the campaign, as there are a
number of suppliers active in certain parts of
the country which are using a "voucher
scheme" for distribution of subsidized
LLINs to pregnant women via ANC. At this point,
plans are still being developed, but it is
likely that a "modified voucher
scheme" will be utilized in areas/regions
where the commercial sector is active in ITNs,
and direct ITN distribution in other (particular
northern, deprived) areas.
We are looking for some assistance with
information on how other countries have
integrated the private sector into the mass
distribution for the measles campaign - if there
are any particular lessons learned or strategies
that can be shared.
