Good Day Everyone
First my sincere apologies
-----
It has been brought to my
attention my original note of welcome to
you (June/July) for joining REMaRAG never
penetrated the air space. (Thanks Jerry for
bringing this to my attention). Apparently
one of the emails caused a blip. However
here we are again and a very big welcome.
Some of you joined after
Convention but this general letter of welcome
and update is meant for everyone.
The Convention was a great
success for our Action Group, bringing
together known Rotarian workers against Malaria
- Faye Cran (Tanzania), John Kirkwood (Uganda),
Terry Youlton (Canada), Ron Seddon (PNG),
Keith Barnard-Jones (UK) - and also many willing
hands to raise funds and the profile in our
battle to Eliminate Malaria, including RI
Directors (Past, Present & Future).
The breakout session was
particularly satisfying in that our room
was full and with such an interesting panel of
speakers I believe everyone left the room with
plenty of ideas and learnt from the many 'field'
experts in the room. It is fascinating how incorrect
thoughts materialise in one's own mind and the
only way to learn is to meet and openly
discuss with similarly interested individuals -
isn't that what Rotary is all about ?
Mark Grabowsky brought that
interesting and very informative article from
the National Geographic magazine July edition, I
recommend that every Rotarian (1.2 million !!!!) obtains a
copy - there must be a commission there
somewhere ? But seriously it is an
excellent 'aide memoir' if you are asked to fill
in at your club meeting one day when the speaker
fails to materialise - or better still why not
offer your services to your club one day !
I am pleased to say REMaRAG
is building up a network of country
representatives and I am always looking for
informed / inspirational speakers to promote our
Action Group in every district. If you
feel you can help please contact me personally.
As well as to your club
please invite yourself to speak at your District
meeting ! Conference ! PETS ! Assembly ! ...
There appears to be a great
amount of publicity in all forms of the media
concerning Malaria at present - long may it
continue - and for the sake of a Long
Lasting Impregnated Net (LLIN) lives can be
saved for $5.
I hope the Los Angeles
Convention will see us all together again for
our Second Annual General Meeting with a
breakout session and, space permitting, our
REMaRAG convention stand will incorporate
participants from around the Rotary world ,
working together promoting our Rotarian Action
Group.
Our website is periodically
updated so please log on to www.remarag.org find
out the latest news about Convention, Malaria
across the world and the ensuing battle.
Like Rotary itself REMaRAG
needs new members to help us in our battle and
perhaps by showing an interest in Malaria people
will join Rotary - who knows! so any help in
recruiting members is always welcome.
As this is a combined
general letter would those members who
signed up for the annual membership of $20 per
year please renew their membership or subscribe
for life membership at $100. Contact our
Treasurer David Oakes Email:david@oakes67.freeserve.co.uk
Your commitment to REMaRAG
is a shining example on how we can Lead the Way and in so
doing show the world that Rotary Shares its ideas and expertise for the benefits of
those less fortunate than ourselves.
I thank you for your
participation and look forward to hearing of
your promotion of REMaRAG in the future.
Yours in Rotary Service
& Fellowship
